About Us

For several years Barry Fisher dreamed of having his own business. After living in Baden for 20 years and watching the huge growth spurt in town, Barry wanted to find a way to connect the new and the old residents of town. It was August of 2000 when Barry had a vision and decided a newsletter would be a solution and the Baden Outlook was born. The motto was clear “Keeping the Community Connected” and the publication would be the voice for this growing town.

With limited computer skills and no training in journalism, graphic design, or photography, the Fisher family took a leap and gave it all they had. As the years progressed, so did their skillset, advertisers list, page count, and readership. Fast forward to today, Baden Outlook is still going strong after two decades.

As the Outlook team transitions from Pat and Barry Fisher to Katie Fisher, the Baden Outlook will remain the same with fun, up-beat, and easy to read content while keeping up with local events.

Barry Fisher

Barry Fisher:

Barry left home when he was just 17 years old and began his career of 47 years at Zehrs Markets. He was transferred to the New Hamburg location as Assistant Manager where he met his wife, Pat (nee Cook), who was a cashier at the time. Barry has since retired from Zehrs and is truly a community man, keeping busy supporting Wilmot. Barry has served as Ward 3 Councillor for 12 years, being a representative of the Township for the Baden community. He is also founded the Baden Community Association -- “Bringing People Together to Beautify the Community.” Barry continues to contribute to the Baden Outlook as he loves to dive deep into local history, creates games and trivia, and helps with distribution.

Pat Fisher

Pat Fisher:

Pat has been living in Wilmot Township her whole life. Growing up in New Hamburg and then living in Baden for 40 years, she has seen the township grow. She has a deep connection to Baden as she spent a lot of time there as her grandparents lived in the village and her Grandma Seyler was the Baden librarian in the 60s. Pat has been the backbone of the Outlook. She’s had great fun formatting the paper for over two decades, while managing the advertising and the financial side of the business. Pat has taught Katie her expansive publishing skills, and continues working with her creative side, adding the fun flair to the paper that we all know and love.

Katie Fisher

Katie Fisher:

Katie is the daughter of Pat and Barry. She grew up in Baden and attended Baden Public School, Forest Glen Public School, and Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School. She is a local through and through. She helped Barry at the very beginning finding those few advertisers who believed in the paper. She is quick with the camera and eager to capture the beauty of our township while expanding her photography skills. She enjoys the many relationships she has made with the readers, writers, advertisers, and appreciates the support of the proof-readers. Katie now manages the content, formats the paper, and the handles the Facebook and E-Mail communications. Soon, she is set to take over the business but Pat and Barry will never go away… as the paper is still their child too.
