Meet Barry and Pat Fisher - Our Story
Barry had been working at Zehrs Markets for 32 years and was looking for something new and creative to do. He and his wife, Pat, pondered about starting a new business together, and because their small town was growing quickly, they decided that Baden needed a voice.
The Baden Outlook came to life in time to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Wilmot Township in August 2000. Although they had limited computer skills and no training or experience in journalism or graphic design, their focus was to give their town a voice.
Their mission statement is... "Keeping the Community Connected".
Barry continues to work at his day job at Zehrs Markets aw well as being Ward 3 Councillor for Wilmot, while Pat is home managing Baden Outlook Headquarters and working at their labour of love as it requires. Over time the paper went from a hobby to a job and has become dear to their hearts, and to the community too. They have the support of some terrific writers and proofreaders, and the advertisers are faithful and generous. It is completely funded by the advertisers and is available to all at no charge - free to enjoy! The paper is published monthly and printed from their home, (except for July, when no paper is published).
Over the years the population of Baden continues to grow and so does The Outlook. The first publication began with 14 pages with 625 copies printed; by September 2009, 28 pages at 2600 copies were published, and currently (May 2012) 2800 copies of 40 pages are circulated - It is distributed to over 60 "pick-up" locations throughout Wilmot.
